Your child should now be gaining confidence in counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s forwards and backwards. They will now learn to relate these to multiplication and division through combining and sharing groups of 2, 5 and 10.

Your child should be starting to recognise multiples of 2, 5 and 10 and should be able to identify missing numbers in a sequence.

Early multiplication is presented as a practical problem such as:

There are 10 crayons in each box. How many altogether?

There would be a picture of the number of boxes and your child would count each box in tens to find the answer.
