By the spring term of Year One, your child should be secure in their knowledge of CVC words and are beginning to understand consonant clusters at the beginning and end of words.

This unit focuses on words containing end clusters with penultimate –l. E.g. gold, help.

Try to share books with your child as often as you can. Bedtime is always a good time to look at a book together. Encourage your child to point out words with penultimate -l. Group words together (see the cards in this unit), play a game where you take turns to think of words that begin with the same consonant cluster.
